Kazakhstan's Domestic Pharma Output Reaches KZT 191.1 Billion
Pharmaceutical production in Kazakhstan rose 8.7% in 2025 to KZT 191.1 billion. The domestic share has reached about 40% in volume but only 16% in value; the target is 50% by 2029.

According to Kazakhstan's Ministry of Health, pharmaceutical production in the country rose 8.7% year on year to KZT 191.1 billion in 2025, and output has grown 37% over the past three years. Growth continued in 2026: production of medicines and medical devices reached KZT 126.6 billion in the first half of the year, almost 30% more than in the same period a year earlier.
Data from the medicine marking and traceability system show that the domestic share of the local market in physical (unit) terms reached 39.8% in May 2026 and 40.3% in August 2026. In value terms the picture is different: domestic medicines held 16% at the end of 2025, below the planned 25%. The ministry attributes the gap to the weight of patented, high-priced innovative medicines, for example in oncology and orphan diseases, in total market value. In line with the President's instruction, the target is to raise the share of domestic medicines to 50% by 2029.
The industry is also growing in scale: 209 domestic manufacturers are registered in Kazakhstan, 43 of them producing medicines and 166 producing medical devices. Investment in the pharmaceutical industry rose 56% in 2025 to USD 142.8 million, and pharmaceutical exports reached USD 84 million. International companies such as AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Roche take part in technology transfer and production localisation projects. These figures show domestic production strengthening in volume while imported innovative medicines keep their weight in value; at CSC we follow these developments closely.
